Coming Soon: OpenGov for Permits and Inspections

June 9, 2026
 /

The City of Newcastle Community Development Department is moving its permitting and inspections system to OpenGov.com, a new platform designed to create a more streamlined and transparent experience for applicants and staff. The transition begins June 10, 2026, with full launch expected on June 22.

What permits are affected starting June 10? The following permit types will no longer be accepted through MyBuildingPermit.com beginning June 10:

  • Accessory Structures
  • Commercial Building Permits / Tenant Improvements
  • Decks
  • Multi-Family Residential Permits
  • Preapplication Requests
  • Right-of-Way Permits
  • Sign Permits
  • Single-Family Residential Permits
  • Vault and Retaining Wall (“Structural”) Permits

How do I submit those permits during the transition? Download the appropriate permit forms from the City’s Document Center, complete them, and submit all required materials by email to permit@newcastlewa.gov. Files larger than 20MB should be shared via cloud storage such as Google Drive or Box.com.

Are any permits still accepted on MyBuildingPermit.com? Yes. Over-the-counter permits (Plumbing, Mechanical, and Re-Roofs) will continue to be accepted through MyBuildingPermit.com until June 29.

How do I schedule an inspection during the transition? Between June 10 and June 22, contact CJ Ojala or Ash Singh at 425-649-4444, or email permit@newcastlewa.gov with “Inspection Request” as the subject line and your permit number included.

Questions? Contact the Permit Center at permit@newcastlewa.gov or 425-386-4103.
