At its January 6, 2026 meeting, City Council elected Ariana Sherlock to serve as Mayor and Paul Charbonneau to serve as Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are selected by the Council every two years. In these leadership roles, the Mayor presides over Council meetings and represents the Council at other meetings and events. The Deputy Mayor supports these responsibilities and serves in the Mayor’s absence.
Mayor Sherlock is serving her second term on City Council, following her reelection in 2023. Deputy Mayor Charbonneau is also in his second term, having been reelected this fall. During the nomination process, fellow councilmembers highlighted their demonstrated leadership, collaborative approach, and service to the Newcastle community.
Please join us in congratulating Mayor Ariana Sherlock and Deputy Mayor Paul Charbonneau as they begin their terms of service.
