About Wildfire Risk

Newcastle is surrounded by forests and greenbelts, which means wildfire is a natural hazard to be aware of. While the region does not typically face the long droughts or strong summer winds seen in places like California, dry conditions can still increase fire risk. Understanding wildfire safety helps protect homes, neighborhoods, and natural areas during the warmer months.

Local Fire Preparedness

Bellevue Fire Department provides fire service for Newcastle and trains year-round for large and complex wildfire events. The department partners with nearby agencies to boost staffing and resources when fire danger is high. It also operates a specialized brush truck designed to reach fires in steep or heavily forested areas. Brush Truck 101 is based at Station 9 on Newcastle Way. The Department offers public education events, including Wildland Urban Interface safety days, to help the community reduce wildfire risk.

Fire Safety Burn Bans

Open burning, including yard debris, construction materials, or trash, is prohibited at all times within areas served by the Bellevue Fire Department. Additional fire safety burn bans may be issued by the King County Fire Marshal when hot, dry weather increases wildfire danger. These bans apply across all of King County and are coordinated with state and local agencies to help prevent accidental fires.
