Join the Newcastle Historical Society for a community clean-up and restoration event at the Newcastle Historic Cemetery. Come for as little or as long as you’d like — every bit helps!
This historic two-acre cemetery has served as the final resting place for coal miners and their families since the 1870s. It remains the only tangible reminder of the nationalities of miners who helped shape Newcastle’s early coal mining industry.
What to bring:
Work gloves
Hand-held pruners (if you have them)
Outdoor-appropriate clothing
What you’ll do:
Clear ivy and debris
Help transport already-cleared vegetation to an accessible area for City removal
This event qualifies for community service hours for Scouts and high school students.
Help preserve this important piece of Newcastle’s heritage!
