About the Division

The Parks and Trails Division oversees all city-owned parks and trails, keeping them safe, accessible, and enjoyable. Staff manage capital projects that improve public spaces and work with the Maintenance & Facilities Division to maintain parks and trails. The division also partners with community groups and volunteers to support ongoing care and plan for future improvements, helping preserve and enhance Newcastle’s outdoor spaces.

City Parks

Newcastle has nearly 164 acres of park space across the city, from small mini-parks and neighborhood parks to larger community and resource parks. The parks offer a mix of features like playgrounds, walking paths, picnic areas, sports courts, and natural spaces with trails, gardens, and wetlands. Whether for active play, quiet reflection, or community events, Newcastle’s parks give visitors many places to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature, and explore local history.

City Trails

Newcastle has a network of 12 miles of major trails connecting city destinations and linking to regional trails in Bellevue, Renton, and King County. Trails vary in length and difficulty, with wooded paths, hills, boardwalks, and scenic viewpoints. Some are easy for walking or biking, while others are steeper for hikers and equestrians. Whether for a short stroll or a longer adventure, Newcastle’s trails offer many ways to enjoy the outdoors and the city’s natural beauty.

How We Serve the Community

The Parks & Trails Division helps the community enjoy and connect with Newcastle’s outdoor spaces. The division provides safe, welcoming parks and trails for play, exercise, and events. Partnering with other divisions and volunteers, the staff maintain trails, support programs, and create opportunities to explore nature, local history, and community activities.
