About Veterans Support
Newcastle thanks all veterans for their service and sacrifice. Below is an overview of local, state, and national resources available to veterans, service members, and their families, including financial assistance, housing support, and benefits guidance. For veterans or family members experiencing a mental health crisis, call 911 or 988 immediately for help.
Local Resources
King County offers programs to support veterans, service members, and their families. The King County Veterans Program (KCVP) provides case management, emergency financial help, housing support, and job assistance, with offices in Tukwila and Seattle. Other local programs offer help with rent, utilities, or medical needs, behavioral health support, and in-home counseling for veterans over 55.
State Resources
The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) and Washington State Department of Social and Human Services (DSHS) provide a variety of benefits and services for veterans and their families. These programs include long-term care, pensions, counseling, and support for surviving spouses. Local state offices work closely with King County programs to help veterans apply for and use these state-level benefits.
Federal Resources
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers national resources for veterans, including healthcare, education, disability compensation, and mental health services. Veterans can access free counseling at local Vet Centers, or call the VA Crisis Line 24/7 for immediate support. Veterans Service Organizations such as the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans provide assistance with claims, legal advice, and community support.
