About Pet Licensing

The City of Newcastle contracts with Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) to provide pet licensing and animal control. Dogs and cats eight weeks or older are required to have a pet license. A license acts like an ID tag and helps lost pets return home more quickly, including through RASKC’s “Free Ride Home” program. Licensing fees also support animal control, spay and neuter services, and care for homeless pets.

Obtaining a License

Getting or renewing a pet license is easy and can be done in person at more than 100 licensing locations, including City Hall, or online through the RASKC website. Start by confirming that the address is within RASKC’s service area, then enter the pet’s information and submit the payment. Please note that online payments include a small service fee. Replacement tags are also available if a license tag has been lost.

Licensing Fees

King County’s pet licensing fees vary based on several factors, including whether a pet is spayed or neutered, its age, and the owner’s eligibility for discounts such as senior or disability rates. Licenses for service animals are issued at no cost. Fees also apply for replacement tags, ownership transfers, and late renewals. In addition, fines may be charged when a pet is not properly licensed.
