Newcastle invites the community to welcome the Year of the Snake at the city’s highly anticipated Lunar New Year Celebration. The event will take place on Sunday, February 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Risdon Middle School (6928 116th Ave SE, Newcastle). Additional parking available at Hazelwood Elementary School.
This annual celebration promises a fun-filled afternoon for all ages, featuring live entertainment, arts and crafts, hands-on activities, and delicious food. Event highlights include:
- 1:15 p.m. Dragon and Lion Dances with a Kung Fu demonstration by Northwest Kung Fu & Fitness
- 2:00 p.m. Traditional and Modern Cultural Performances
- 3:15 p.m. Taiko Drumming performance by Inochi Taiko
The event is free and open to the public, offering a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors, celebrate cultural traditions, and enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere.
To make this celebration a success, the City of Newcastle is calling for volunteers to assist with various tasks, including setup, cleanup, greeting attendees, managing activities, and serving food. Whether you have an hour or the entire afternoon to spare, your help will make a big difference.
