CrossTown Trail and Boardwalk Ribbon Cutting

The City of Newcastle is pleased to announce the opening of the CrossTown Trail and Boardwalk at Lake Boren Park, a significant milestone realized on April 26, 2024. Years in the making, this project marks the first major accomplishment of the Lake Boren Park Master Plan adopted in 2016.

Funded in part by state and county grants, the CrossTown Trail and Boardwalk enhances accessibility to the park while preserving its natural habitat. Connecting the East CrossTown and West CrossTown trails, this newest addition enriches visitors' experiences by providing opportunities to explore wooded and wetland areas, ultimately fostering a deeper connection to the park and its surroundings.

Designed by Berger Partnership and constructed by Accord Contractors, the trail spans approximately 1/8-mile, with half its length comprised of an elevated boardwalk through the picturesque natural area at the south end of Lake Boren.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 8, to commemorate this momentous occasion. Distinguished guests, including State Senator Lisa Wellman, Representatives Tana Senn and My-Linh Thai, and King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, joined Mayor Robert Clark and Public Works Director Jeff Brauns in celebrating this achievement with those in attendance.

Garry Kampen and Peggy Price of Newcastle Trails had the honor of cutting the ribbon, illustrating the community's excitement and anticipation for the new trail. The beautiful weather provided the perfect backdrop for attendees to enjoy an inaugural walk along the trail and boardwalk.

The City of Newcastle invites everyone to experience the natural beauty and tranquility of Lake Boren through the CrossTown Trail and Boardwalk, a testament to the community's commitment to preserving and enhancing its green spaces for generations to come.
