Newcastle City Council

On February 7, 2023, Council held a special meeting to learn about the Re+ program at 6:00 p.m. before the regular Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. If you missed watching it live, you can always see videos of past Council and Commission meetings on our YouTube page.

6:00 P.M. Study Session 

King County Solid Waste Division presented on the Re+ program and the County’s plan to extend the life of the Cedar Hills landfill. You can view their slide deck with the full presentation.

7:00 P.M. Regular Council Meeting 

Councilmember Comment 

Themes from Councilmembers included messages of thanks for outgoing Police Chief Jason Houck for all that he’s contributed to the Newcastle community. Chief Houck began his new position within the King County Sheriff’s Office at the SeaTac Police Department on February 6.
 

2022 Year-End Police Report 

Outgoing Chief Jason Houck and incoming Chief Steve Kajihiro presented their year-end report on crime and policing in Newcastle. An item of note is that Newcastle PD Officer Matt Treadway wrote more tickets than any other deputy in the King County Sheriff’s Office. Way to go, Officer Treadway!
 

City Manager Report 

The written report covers upcoming events and staffing updates, as well as information on the beginning of construction for the Hiemstra project, and how to vote in the King Conservation District board election.
 

Public Hearing 

A public hearing was held on the subject of a utility easement relinquishment in the Windtree 5 subdivision, and a resolution was adopted 7-0 to release it. Learn more.

  • Project acceptance of 2022 sidewalk panel replacement (T-006) 

  • Project acceptance of 2022 right-of-way and park tree planting (P-023) 

  • Project acceptance of Coal Creek Parkway Catch Basin Cover Adjustment project 

  • Adoption of Resolution 2023-933 approving a contract for consulting services for the Comprehensive Plan update 

  • Adoption of Resolution 2023-935 design contract for S.E. May Creek Park Drive (west) Non-Motorized Improvements
