After nearly a year of supplying our vulnerable community members with grocery essentials, the Newcastle Cares program is coming to an end at the end of April. As vaccine distribution ramps up and COVID-19 conditions continue to improve, we’ve witnessed a notable decrease in the need for this twice-a-month offering.
The program will end on Wednesday, April 28. In an effort to give beneficiaries time to prepare for the end, there are three more distribution dates (all held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aegis Gardens): March 24, April 14 and April 28. At the final event, organizers will distribute a flyer with outside resources for residents needing additional assistance. You can also email to [email protected] for more information on how to get help.
Newcastle Cares came together nearly a year ago when the City of Newcastle, Aegis Gardens and the Coal Creek Family YMCA banded together to support our community through the COVID-19 crisis. Since then, we’ve distributed hundreds of pounds of non-perishable foods and hard-to-find paper products and sanitizers to Newcastle residents in need.
We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of this special community. When we put out a call for donations to fuel our supply, you never disappointed. When we needed volunteers to ensure this program could continue, you stepped up in a big way. Thank you to every donor and volunteer who contributed. You make a difference in your community!
