The Newcastle City Council’s work to adopt the 2021 budget kicks in to high gear this October. The Council will review, discuss and amend the budget over the next month. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the budget process and offer comments and suggestions at any of the three scheduled public hearings.

2021 CITY COUNCIL BUDGET MEETING CALENDAR
*Note: While the dates of public hearings will not change, there could be alterations to this budget calendar timeline. Please check newcastlewa.gov for the latest updates*
Until in-person meetings resume, there are special meetings of the City Council on the first and third Tuesdays of each month starting at 6 p.m. To protect the health and safety of the public, Councilmembers, and staff, meetings will be held virtually.
Oct. 20 City Council Meeting
— City staff distributes the official 2021 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budget
— Public hearing on the 2021 preliminary budget
Oct. 22 City Council Budget Workshop
— The Newcastle City Council will hold a budget workshop at 12 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct a Council workshop providing an overview of the City’s 2021 operating and capital budget.
Nov. 3 City Council Meeting
— Public hearing on 2021 revenue sources (property tax)
— Property Tax Levy Rate Adoption
— Public hearing on the 2021 preliminary budget
Nov. 10 City Council Budget Workshop
— The Newcastle City Council will hold a budget workshop at 3 p.m.
Nov. 17 City Council Meeting
— Final ordinance adopting budget
The City Council could also hold meetings on Dec. 1 and 15 if additional deliberation is needed.
