How long have you lived/worked in Newcastle and what brought you to live/work in Newcastle?

We have lived in Newcastle over 35 years. We moved here when it was still unincorporated King County. We moved to the area because it was in the Issaquah School district, where my wife, Lisa, was a teacher, and because we loved the small-town feel. We thought it would be a great place to raise our two daughters. Since retiring 8 years ago, I have been determined to walk to get to almost everything we need because our city center is so close and easy to get to.

What are some of the ways you contribute to our community?

I love to volunteer. I joined the Community Activities Commission in 2018, where I currently serve as the Chair. It is an honor and a pleasure to work with so many talented, artistic, caring and involved volunteer commissioners. Volunteers are the life blood of our city, and we could not do what we do without them. I am also the President of the Olympus Homeowners Association, have been a volunteer on the board for the last 7 years. I am also an Olympus Block Watch captain. I used to volunteer at Bloodworks once a week when they allowed volunteer registrars, that ended during the pandemic. Also, in my free/retired time, I work at the Golf Club at Newcastle a couple days a week checking in golfers as the starter and tracking pace of play on the course as a players’ assistant.

Tell us a Newcastle memory.

One very favorite memory was meeting and spending time with the late Alan White, Newcastle resident and drummer for YES, and introducing him and his band at a Newcastle Days celebration concert. We miss you, Alan.

What do you hope for the future of Newcastle?

My hope is that our city will continue being a vibrant, prosperous and diversified community for many years to come, with the hope we have maintain and grow the necessary city services, staff and activities to keep our city safe, healthy, active and entertained. And as important, keep and attract good businesses.

What are some of your favorite Newcastle places to visit?

I love all the trails we have in and around the city: May Creek, Terrace, Cross Town, Red Town, and Olympus trails to name a few. We also love to go to Lake Boren Park and absolutely love the new boardwalk at the south end of the lake.
