Rent a Lake Boren Park shelter
Reserve a Lake Boren Park shelter for your next event

Host your event at Lake Boren Park

Lake Boren Park shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved in advance. Reservations are for the shelter area only. These shelters are the only park facilities in the city's system that can be reserved.

The two picnic shelters can be reserved for morning block (8 am to 2 pm) or afternoon block (2 pm to 8 pm) or full day from (8 am to 8 pm) any day of the week. Any activity outside normal hours must be approved by the City Manager. Reservations can be made starting on the first day of the same calendar year, but no later than three days prior.

Find out which dates are available and make a tentative reservation by calling City Hall at 425-649-4444. A completed application form and rental payment must be received within 14 days of making a phone reservation, unless the reservation date dictates otherwise. Payments cannot be accepted over the phone. If paying by check, the completed application and payment can be sent through the mail. If paying in person, City Hall accepts cash, check, money order or Visa/MasterCard.

The 2018 rates for Newcastle residents (proof of residency is required) are as follows: $95 (half-day weekday); $130 (half-day weekend or holiday); and $260 (full day). The rates for non-Newcastle residents are: $185 (half-day weekday); $260 (half-day weekend or holiday); and $515 (full day). In order to receive the resident rate, the person completing the form and paying the fee must live within the corporate limits of the City of Newcastle and provide proof of residency (such as a driver's license or a utility bill). Some dates are unavailable due to City of Newcastle events. For example, park shelters may not be reserved on the Fourth of July due to the city's Fourth at the Lake Celebration.

For cancellations made two weeks or more before the reservation date, the city will retain 50 percent of the rental fee. If a cancellation is made less than two weeks before the reservation date, the city will retain 75 percent of the rental fee. Refunds will not be issued after the reservation date for any reason, including inclement weather.

Power outlets are available at both shelters. Barbeque grills are not provided, but may be brought in. Barbeque coals should not be disposed of in the garbage but should be carried out. Shelter #1 is located near the playground, and Shelter #2 is found near the bathroom and tennis courts. Both shelters contain five standard-sized picnic tables.

Additional restrictions and information can be found on the Park Shelter Application Form.
