The City of Newcastle has several neighborhoods that are active in the neighborhood block watch program. Residents are additional eyes and ears for the police department. You are the ones that have a better chance of seeing someone suspicious, or a suspicious vehicle or activity in your neighborhood. It is important to know that it is OK to call the police, so that we can respond and verify if the activity is legitimate, or a crime in progress.
Being involved in a block watch does not take a large commitment. We're looking for someone who is willing to host a meeting, invite neighbors and organize some information. The meetings last less than an hour and are a good way to get to know your neighbors, a police officer and what services the police provide. Block Watch will provide you with useful information on crime prevention and update you on any crime trends in the city.
We strongly feel that working with the community we will be able to reduce crime, the fear of crime and keep the City of Newcastle a safe place to live.
