General Updates


- Newcastle City Clerk Paul White opened the meeting with a helpful presentation on how to find public meeting information on the City’s website. You can view the presentation here. - Newcastle Mayor Linda Newing read a proclamation recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You can read that here.

- The Council had an initial discussion regarding proposed changes to several internal policies. Learn more about some of the policy initiatives they discussed here. They discussed everything from ethics to changes to the meeting agenda order. The Council offered feedback on a few items, but this was just an introduction to a more substantive discussion that will take place during their retreat (date TBA). Newcastle Mayor Linda Newing indicated that she wanted to add goals about diversity and inclusion in the community to the Council’s goals and priorities.

The Newcastle City Council wants to hear from you! Members of the public are invited to share thoughts during public hearings or two open public comment periods at meetings. In accordance with public health orders, meetings of the City Council currently occur virtually on the first and third Tuesdays of each month starting at 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
