Puget Sound Energy has submitted materials for a Conditional Use Permit (#17-002), a Critical Areas Review (#17-013), a Variance application (#17-004) and a Site Plan Review application (#18-001).

PSE proposes to construct a new Richards Creek Substation in Bellevue and upgrade 18 miles of two existing 115-kilovolt transmission lines with 230-kilovolt lines. Collectively, this proposal, which spans from Renton to Redmond, is referred to as Energize Eastside.

The Newcastle segment is approximately 1.5 miles located within an existing utility corridor and PSE proposes to replace 52 wooden poles with 24 steel poles.

May 30, 2018: Puget Sound Energy will host another public meeting regarding Energize Eastside from 6-8 p.m. June 26 at Aegis Gardens. Residents are encouraged to bring their Energize Eastside questions and concerns. More information will be provided when available.

March 1, 2018: The final Energize Eastside Environmental Impact Statement was published today. The EIS is not a permit - it is one of many sets of information permitting agencies will consider as they decide whether to approve the project and issue necessary permits. View the final EIS at energizeeastsideeis.org.

Feb. 16, 2018:
The City of Newcastle has issued a notice of application regarding the Energize Eastside transmission line project. A 30-day period to comment on the land use application permits is now open. Submitting comments within this period establishes a property owner as a party of record and ensures the right of persons commenting to receive notice of hearings, to receive copies of decisions once made, and appeal rights. Comments under these provisions must be submitted by the comment period ending date (5 p.m. March 19, 2018). View the full notice of application here.

Feb. 2, 2018: The City of Newcastle has determined PSE's application to be complete. See the notice of completeness letter here.

Jan. 18, 2018: Puget Sound Energy has resubmitted its application and the city has 14 days to determine completeness.

Jan. 16, 2018: A public meeting is scheduled from 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 31 at Vera Risdon Middle School (6928 116th Ave. SE, Newcastle). You're invited to come and learn more about the project and permitting process.

Dec. 5, 2017: The City of Newcastle is currently reviewing the submitted applications to determine whether all required materials are included and complete. The Newcastle Municipal Code allows for a 28-day period from application submittal to issue a determination of "completeness." PSE submitted materials on Nov. 9, 2017, and the city has issued a determination of incompleteness on Dec. 5, 2017. PSE has also submitted a request to have all applications consolidated for processing and review.
