Councilmember Tony Ventrella

Tony Ventrella moved to Newcastle in 2003 with his wife Mika. They were looking for a house that was close enough to SeaTac for Mika’s frequent business travel and close enough to Seattle for his job as TV sportscaster. They were impressed with the small town atmosphere, the miles and miles of walking and jogging trails and the variety of local businesses, especially Newcastle Fruit and Produce. On one of the couple’s first days here, they ran from their house in the Highlands neighborhood to The Golf Club at Newcastle. That sealed it, they fell in love with the City.

You might recognize Tony from his decades-long career in Seattle sports media. He was a regular visitor in living rooms across the Puget Sound, popping up on your television to bring you stories about local athletes and teams when he served as sports director at KING 5 and KIRO 7. He also worked as the Seattle Seahawks’ Digital Media Host for more than a decade, including during the team’s Super Bowl win in 2014.

Tony, now in his first term on the Newcastle City Council, was elected for a four-year term starting in 2020. He was elected as Deputy Mayor for a two-year term in January 2020. He previously spent four years on the Community Activities Commission helping to plan events such as Newcastle Days, Concerts in the Park, Broadway on Boren, Boocastle and the Newcastle Softball Classic. In his spare time, you just might find him walking around town. He goes on daily walks and logs between 30-40 miles a week. He also loves training at a boxing gym in Seattle, helping small businesses reach their potential through his marketing company Big Play Marketing and working on his goal of reading one book a week.
