State Awards Newcastle Clean Audit Report for 2018
Posted on 10/28/2019

An independent audit of the city’s 2018 finances and an accountability audit covering 2018 identified no findings or concerns. Representatives of the Washington State Auditor’s Office shared the results of the audit with members of the City Council at an October exit conference.

“The results of this independent audit stand as a testament to our staff’s dedication and a positive acknowledgement of our work to employ best practices in City operations,” said Newcastle City Manager Rob Wyman.

The state auditor’s office performs financial statement audits to determine if the local governments' financial statements are accurate and complete. An accountability audit assesses how local governments manage, use and safeguard public resources. It evaluates whether there is reasonable assurance the local government adheres to applicable state laws, regulations and its own policies and procedures.

Annual independent audits performed by the Washington State Auditor’s Office provide essential accountability and transparency for City operations. This information is valuable to management, the governing body and public stakeholders when assessing a government’s stewardship of public resources.
