Children & Families

Toddler Story Time
Newcastle Library, Monday, January, 7, 14, and 28, 10:15 AM and 11:30 AM. No Story Times on January 21.
Ages 2-3 with adult. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes and fun! Limited space. Tickets available day of the program.

Play & Learn Chinese
Tuesday, January 8, 15, 22, 29, 10:30 AM
Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, sharing books and stories, creating art and playing. This program is conducted primarily in Chinese but the facilitator is a bilingual English/Chinese speaker.

Infant Story Time
Newcastle Library, Wednesday, January 9, 16, 23, and 30, 10:15 AM
Ages newborn to 12 months with adult. Rhymes, songs, cuddles, stories and fun designed for the very young and their caregiver. Limited space. Tickets available day of the program.

Preschool Story Time
Wednesday, January 9, 16, 23, and 30, 11:30 AM
Ages 3 to 5 with adult. Help your child build early literacy skills with stories, songs and rhymes. Limited space. Tickets available day of the program. 


Girls Who Code Club
Monday, January 7 and 14, 6:00 PM
Girls in grades 6-12. Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit organization aiming to inspire, educate, and equip girls with computing skills they need in the 21st century. This free after school club is for girls to explore coding in a fun and friendly environment. Library laptops are limited. Students may bring their own laptop. Space is limited. Snacks provided by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Study Zone
Tuesday, January 8, 15, 22 and 29, 6:30 PM
Grades K-12. Drop in for free homework help from trained volunteer tutors.

Kerbal Space Program Club
Wednesday, January 2, 6:00 PM
Ages 10 to 17. Join fans of rockets, space travel and explosions in playing the award-winning computer game Kerbal Space Program! Use one of our laptops or bring your own if you already play. Space is limited.

Newcastle Youth for Community Engagement (NYCE)
Wednesday, January 16, 6:30 PM
Attention middle and high school students! Volunteer and join Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE) to help the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle create the programs, services, and events you want to see! Munch on snacks while you make a difference at our monthly meetings!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle.

Adults. Please register. Certified Bob Ross Instructor, Sweety Saradha, will teach you classic Bob Ross oil painting wet on wet techniques. Paint a simple Bob Ross landscape following Sweety’s demonstration and instructions, then take home your art and newfound inspiration! Tech savvy volunteers will present an overview of popular features and apps on your smart phone and tech devices, including basic social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype and YouTube. Bring your smart phone, iPad, laptop and your questions.

Giving Thanks and Gratitude with Tony Ventrella
Saturday, February 2, 3pm
Tony Ventrella shares stories and wisdom about facing each day with a new attitude, always looking out for your fellow human beings and not fretting about the past or the future. Tony's book, Here's Smiling at You, will be available for purchase and signing.
