Spotlight

The Woman's Hour: the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage
Wednesday, February 26, 7pm
Held at Mercer Island High School, Performing Arts Center, 9100 Southeast 42nd Street, Mercer Island.
Celebrate the courageous and dramatic fight required for women to win the right to vote. Elaine Weiss, author of The Woman's Hour, shares this important story.

Toddler Story Time
Monday, February 3, 10, 17 and 24, 10:00 AM & 11:15AM
Ages 1 to 3, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for songs, books and bubbles in this 30 minute program for toddlers! Up to 30 minutes of play time takes place right after Story Time. Story Time will start promptly at 10:05am. Space is very limited. First come, first served.

Play & Learn Chinese
Tuesday, February 4, 11, 18 and 25, 10:30 AM
Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, sharing books and stories, creating art and playing. This program is conducted primarily in Chinese but the facilitator is a bilingual English/Chinese speaker.

Infant Story Time
Wednesday, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, 10:00 AM
Newborn to 12 months with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for songs, books and bubbles in this 30 minute program for babies! Up to 30 minutes of play time takes place right after Story Time. Story Time will start promptly at 10:05am. Space is limited. First come, first served.

Preschool Story Time
Wednesday, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, 11:15 AM
Ages 3 to 5 with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for songs, books and bubbles, and work on kindergarten readiness skills in this 30 minute program for preschoolers! Up to 30 minutes of play time takes place right after Story Time. While siblings are welcome to attend, families with just toddlers are encouraged to attend one of Monday's Toddler Story Times. Space is limited, first come, first served.

Japanese Story Time
Thursday, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10:00 AM
Family program, all ages welcome. Come to the meeting room for stories and songs in Japanese! This program is for Japanese speaking children and families, and for children learning Japanese.

Family Drawing Night
Thursday, February 20, 7:00 PM
Presented by the Newcastle Arts Council. All ages welcome. Join your neighbors to draw and color! Bring your own supplies or use the basic drawing supplies provided.

Kerbal Space Program Club

Ages 10 to 17. Join fans of rockets, space travel and explosions in playing the award-winning computer game Kerbal Space Program! Use one of the library's laptops or bring your own if you already play. Space is limited.

Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE)

Attention middle and high school students! Volunteer and join NYCE to help the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle create the programs, services and events you want to see! Girls Who Code Information Session

Grades 6-12. Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit organization aiming to inspire, educate, and equip girls with computing skills they need in the 21st century. This free after-school club is for girls (and students of all genders) in grades 6-12 to explore coding in a fun and friendly environment. Interested teens and their adults are invited to attend this information session. We'll be discussing what Girls Who Code is, what to expect, how to register, and more! In partnership with Girls Who Code and Seattle Tech Guru.

AARP Homefit program leads participants through the process of thinking about the accessibility and livability of their home and whether it will meet their needs as they age. Gain insight on how to prevent falls and keep your home safe. Learn simple do-it-yourself modifications one can make such as placement of the microwave, ideal door handles, rug slips, and more. Join us for the workshop to learn how to live comfortably and injury free at home.
