Did you know you can get free museum passes with your library card? Children & Families

Toddler Story Time
Monday, February 4, 11, 18 and 25, 10:15 AM and 11:30 AM
Ages 1 to 3, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for 30 minutes of silly songs and stories! Open play time takes place right after Story Time. This program is age appropriate for toddlers. Please attend the Story Time that is the best fit for your child's developmental needs. Space is limited. Tickets available day of the program.

Play & Learn Chinese
Tuesday, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, 10:30 AM
Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, sharing books and stories, creating art and playing. This program is conducted primarily in Chinese but the facilitator is a bilingual English/Chinese speaker.

Infant Story Time
Wednesday, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10:15 AM
Newborn to 12 months with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for silly songs and stories in this 30 minute lapsit program for pre-walkers! Open play time takes place right after Story Time. This program is age appropriate for babies. Please attend the Story Time that is the best fit for your child's developmental needs. Space is limited. Tickets available day of the program.

Preschool Story Time
Wednesday, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 11:30 AM
Ages 3 to 5 with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for silly songs and stories and work on kindergarten readiness skills in this 30 minute program for preschoolers! Open play time takes place right after Story Time. While siblings are welcome to attend, families with just toddlers are encouraged to attend one of Monday's Toddler Story Times. Please attend the Story Time that is the best fit for your child's developmental needs. Space is limited, first come, first served.

Study Zone
Tuesday, February 5, 12 and 26, 6:30 PM
Grades K-12.Drop in for free homework help from trained volunteer tutors.

Girls Who Code Club
Monday, February 4, 11 and 25, 6:00 PM
Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit organization aiming to inspire, educate, and equip girls with computing skills they need in the 21st century. This free after-school club is for girls to explore coding in a fun and friendly environment. Library laptops are limited. Students may bring their own laptop. Space is limited. Snacks provided by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Kerbal Space Program Club
Wednesday, February 6, 6:00 PM
Ages 10 to 17. Join fans of rockets, space travel, and explosions in playing the award-winning computer game Kerbal Space Program! Use a library laptop or bring your own if you already play. Space is limited.

Newcastle Youth for Community Engagement (NYCE)
Wednesday, February 20, 6:30 PM
Attention middle and high school students! Volunteer and join Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE) to help the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle create the programs, services and events you want to see! Munch on snacks while you make a difference at the monthly meetings!

Tech Talk for Seniors

Tech savvy volunteers will present an overview of popular features and apps on your smart phone and tech devices, including basic social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype and YouTube. Bring your smart phone, iPad, laptop and your questions.

Giving Thanks and Gratitude with Tony Ventrella
Saturday, February 2, 3pm
Tony Ventrella shares stories and wisdom about facing each day with a new attitude, always looking out for your fellow human beings and not fretting about the past or the future. Tony's book, Here's Smiling at You, will be available for purchase and signing.

Talk Time
Tuesday, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, 7:00 PM
Improve your speaking and listening skills in this conversation group for English language learners. Walk-ins welcome.

Museum Heist Escape Room
Saturday, February 9, 11:00 AM
Presented by The Escape Artist. Ages 10 and older, ages 8 to 10 with adult. Work as a team and solve puzzles in this 10-minute escape room challenge! Choose normal difficulty or hard mode. Limited space available. Participate in groups of five every 15 minutes between 11am-4pm. Arrive early to secure your spot and get a ticket for your time slot. Tickets will be given out starting at 10:40am. Sponsored by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Sketching Family Histories
Thursday, February 21, 7:00 PM
During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create an ink and watercolor sketchbook to capture family stories and memories. Participants will learn basic drawing and watercolor techniques, explore ways to organize a family history sketchbook, and share personal memories with other workshop participants. In partnership with Newcastle Arts Council. Participants can bring personal family photos to the workshop, but it is not required. This workshop is designed and facilitated by Silver Kite Community Arts, LLC (www.silverkite.us). Silver Kite will provide all of the arts supplies for the workshop. Please register.

Disaster Skills Training Workshop: Newcastle

King County is prone to many hazards, and when one happens many services we rely on will be overwhelmed. It may be difficult for residents to travel or communicate. Residents need to be prepared to be self-sufficient during these times. Understanding of disaster skills is critical to being prepared. This free workshop will provide an overview on hazards and certain skills needed after a disaster. Please register.
