UPDATED: Join the Newcastle Community Activities Commission
Posted on 10/11/2018

The Newcastle City Council is seeking applications for membership on the city’s Community Activities Commission. The commission is made up of seven residents who make events like Concerts in the Park and Newcastle Days possible, coordinate volunteer activities, and advise the city on recreational, historical and artistic programs and improvements to the city’s parks and trails. Commissioners also work on other projects approved by the City Council in conjunction with city staff and other community groups. The commission currently has two vacancies (Positions 4 and 9).

We are looking for residents who are enthusiastic about creating experiences and park spaces that enhance the quality of life for people living here. Commissioners are an important part of making Newcastle unique due to their involvement in projects that improve the city’s extensive trail system, create awareness of Newcastle’s historical and cultural heritage, and provide opportunities for people to volunteer. The work of this commission directly contributes to the distinguishing characteristics of this top rated city.

The commission is an advisory board of the City Council comprised of seven members, each serving a four-year term. Members are appointed by the mayor following a selection process and confirmed by the council. The commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 12835 Newcastle Way, Suite 200, Newcastle, WA 98056. Commissioners work with a dedicated staff member, the Community Activities Coordinator, and other staff.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, and must reside within the city or its potential annexation areas established in the Comprehensive Plan. Interested persons should submit an application, letter of interest and resume to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2018. An application is available here or may be obtained by calling 425-649-4444, ext. 102. Application materials can be mailed to Newcastle City Hall, 12835 Newcastle Way, Suite 200, Newcastle WA 98056 or emailed to saram@newcastlewa.gov.
