Each year, Newcastle's Aegis Gardens hosts a community celebration to welcome the harvest moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival is an East Asian harvest festival celebrated notably by the Chinese and Vietnamese people. It's typically celebrated with traditional foods, like mooncakes, and activities, including lighting lanterns.

While we can't host a traditional Mid-Autumn Festival this year due to limits on gatherings, the City of Newcastle, 4Culture and Aegis Gardens are proud to team up and bring the celebrations to you. On Sunday, September 20, community members are invited to pick up FREE lanterns. Pick them up, decorate them and either display them in your home, or drop them off at Aegis where they'll display the lanterns in the facility for their residents.

We'll also have FREE Mid-Autumn Festival-themed coloring books and crayons. Lanterns and coloring books will be distributed at Aegis Gardens (13056 SE 76th St, Newcastle, WA 98056) on Sunday, September 20, from 12-2 p.m. WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. Drive up to the roundabout to pick up your supplies! Please note there is a limited amount of supplies available.

We will be sharing photos of your lanterns, so make sure to post your pictures on social media and tag #NewcastleMidAutumnFestival2020. If you'd like to return your decorated lantern to display it at Aegis, please drop it off to the Aegis front desk by September 29.
