Mark your calendars for the City of Newcastle’s annual Town Hall. Come hear from your Newcastle City Council on June 18 and learn about their work to develop a Fiscal Sustainability Plan that will ensure Newcastle’s long-term financial stability.
Earlier this year, the City Council contracted with a nationally-recognized firm to produce a plan that will address the City’s forecasted financial challenges. As public safety costs continue to rise and development income slows down, City expenditures outpace incoming revenue, creating an annual structural deficit in the budget. That deficit is projected to rise to over $1 million in 2020, increasing each subsequent year, if the City takes no action.
Management Partners worked with the City Council and staff to explore budget strategies that could resolve that identified gap. The firm shared those findings with the Council during a May 14 workshop, and they’ll share details with the public, along with information about the City’s current financial environment, during the Town Hall meeting.
The meeting goes from 7-9 p.m. at The Golf Club at Newcastle. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. This is a key opportunity to make your voice heard and shape the future of your City. Come meet your elected officials, ask questions and learn what’s happening in Newcastle.
