Citizens are invited to interact with members of the Newcastle City Council and meet new Police Chief Jason Houck during the city’s first Community Conversation event on Aug. 29 at the Newcastle Library. The new forum, which goes from 7-9 p.m., is a casual and convenient way for residents to ask their elected officials questions and learn what’s happening in the community.
This event offers citizens a chance to direct the topics of discussion in a more intimate venue than the council’s regular town hall. The evening’s format will mirror the town hall’s question and answer session. Residents in the audience will have the opportunity to take turns asking the councilmembers in attendance questions. Newcastle Police Chief Houck, who joined the city in July, will introduce himself at the beginning of the meeting and answer questions.
“Our goal with these forums is to engage with the community on a more consistent basis. We want to know what’s on your mind. We’re excited to answer your questions and listen to ideas and thoughts from the community,” said Mayor Dauterman.
