UPDATE MARCH 5: Out of an abundance of caution, Newcastle Library and Newcastle Arts Council are postponing two upcoming events: Thursday, March 5 Newcastle Area Youth Exhibition Opening Night and Saturday, March 7 Celebrating Asian Arts programs. We will be looking at potential alternative dates to hold both events in the weeks to come. Please note the Youth Artist Exhibition is up at the library now and can be viewed during regular library hours.

Celebrate our City's diversity and join the community as we come together to explore Asian Arts during a special event on March 7. Aegis Gardens, the Newcastle Library and the Newcastle Arts Council partnered to spotlight three unique Asian art focused offerings for the Newcastle community. All activities will be held at the Newcastle Library.

1. Origami Flowers (noon to 1:30 p.m.)
All ages are welcome, but children may need some assistance. Celebrate Asian culture by making an elegant, yet easy origami flower to two to take home with you. All supplies provided. 

2. Celebrating the Reopening of the Seattle Asian Art Museum (2-3 p.m.)
Presented by Tamara Moats, art historian. Learn about the spaces and exhibitions at the newly renovated Seattle Asian Arts Museum in Volunteer Park. The collection breaks boundaries to offer an exploration of art from China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. 

3. Ikebana Demonstration (3:30-4:45 p.m.)
Presented by Shirley Hill. Join us for a demonstration of Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging. We are honored to host Shirley Hill as our guest Komon in demonstrating the expressions of balance, depth, line, color, form, movement and space in her arrangements.
