UPDATE JAN. 28, 2020:
The organizers at Aegis Gardens just informed us that this weekend's event has been canceled out of an abundance of caution due to the recent public health concerns. Here's the message from Aegis Gardens:

"We want to inform you this year’s Lunar New Year celebration at Aegis Gardens Newcastle has been canceled due to extenuating circumstances and precautions due to the coronavirus. The safety of our attendees, residents and staff always comes first. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to greeting you at next year’s festivities."

Organizers tell the City that the majority of vendors and performers canceled their appearances as a precautionary measure. Please note that there are not currently any concerns about a virus outbreak, as King County Public Health officials say the risk of infection from novel coronavirus is low to the general public. However, the City wants to respect and support the concerns and decisions of the event organizers and partners. Learn more about the coronavirus at kingcounty.gov/ncov.

ORIGINAL POST:

Newcastle’s community Lunar New Year celebration is set for Saturday, Feb.1 at Aegis Gardens (13056 SE 76th St.). Help us ring in the Year of the Rat as we celebrate with music, art, food and dance! Activities include calligraphy, Chinese knot tying, Chinese paper cutting and a lion dance. The City of Newcastle is a proud sponsor of the 2020 community celebration. Be sure to stop by our booth to spin the wheel and earn prizes like stickers, pins and red envelopes!

The event goes from 1-3 p.m. Parking will be extremely limited at Aegis Gardens, so additional space is available at Newcastle City Hall (12835 Newcastle Way). Aegis Gardens will offer a shuttle that picks up patrons at 12:30 and 12:45, or you can walk from City Hall to Aegis (which is about a 10 minute walk).

This event is hosted by Aegis Gardens and sponsored by WSCCNA and the City of Newcastle with grant funding from 4Culture.
