Children & Families

Play and Learn Chinese
Tuesday, September 3, 10, 17 and 24, 10:30am
Newborn to age 5 with adult. Have fun singing songs, sharing books and stories, creating art and playing.
This program is conducted primarily in Chinese but the facilitator is a bilingual English/Chinese speaker.

Japanese Story Times

Family program, all ages welcome with adult. Stories, songs and fun!

Infant Story Times

Kerbal Space Program Club
Wednesday, September 4, 6pm
Ages 10 to 17. Join fans of rockets, space travel and explosions in playing the award-winning computer game Kerbal Space Program! Use one of the library's laptops or bring your own if you already play. Space is limited.

Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE)
Wednesday, September 18, 6:30pm
Middle and high school students. Help the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle create the programs, services and events you want to see!

Bee Prepared!
Saturday, September 21, 1pm
Grades 4-8. Come to this special presentation by regional King-Snohomish Spelling Bee winner and national competitor, Nidhi! Learn about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, word pronunciation, language patterns and study tips for spellers. Then come back to work on your skills at optional Spelling Bee Study Zone sessions with Nidhi.

Tuesday, September 24 and October 1, 4-5pm
Grades 4-8. Join Nidhi, regional King-Snohomish Scripps Spelling Bee winner, to work on your spelling skills and ask questions. Location is the Bumblebee table near the information desk. Space is limited. First come, first served.

Tuesday, September 24, 6:30-8:30pm
Grades K-12. Drop-in for free homework help from trained volunteer tutors.


Newcastle Area Artists Exhibition
September 3-27
In celebration of City of Newcastle’s 25th Anniversary and in support of local arts and Newcastle Days, Newcastle Arts Council presents a local artists art exhibition on display at Newcastle Library throughout the month of September.
Artists Reception Opening Night
Thursday, September 5, 7-8:30pm
Drop by the Artists Reception to view the exhibition, meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.

Acrylic Painting for Beginners
Monday, September 9, 7pm
Ages 16 and older. Jason Liekhus, from Squak Art Studio, teaches acrylic painting techniques for beginners. Learn to paint from a photo, step-by-step, as Jason circulates and provides individual coaching.
All supplies provided. Space is limited. Tickets given out at the Information Desk at 6:40pm.

Community Conversation with Newcastle City Councilmembers
Tuesday, September 10, 7pm
Newcastle City Council Members understand some of the most impactful and useful information they gather comes directly from community members. Come ask questions, provide feedback and listen to neighbors during this informal conversation with your elected officials.

Practice your English and learn more about American culture in this English conversation group.

Meditation and Mindfulness for Everyone
Saturday, September 21, 10:30am
This beginning level class will answer your questions about meditation, provide basic information about the benefits of having a regular practice and tips and tricks you can use for success. The last 5 to 10 minutes you will be guided through a short meditation. Lisa Mueller is a Newcastle resident who is a Certified Intuitive Life Coach and teacher of Mindfulness and Meditation.

Friends of the Newcastle Library Annual Meeting and Election

Meeting and open election for six general members of the Friends of the Library Newcastle Board and then the Board will elect the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.

Come meet your Newcastle City Council Candidates: Linda Newing, Tom Griffin, Tony Ventrella, Ariana Sherlock and Allen Dauterman. Each will provide brief introductory comments, then we will open the floor for questions. Afterwards, stay to chat one-on-one with the candidates, ask questions, and learn more about the individuals that will represent you.

Medicare Made Clear

This workshop will give you an overview of the different parts of Medicare (Parts A, B, C, D and supplements): what they cover and how they work. There will be a discussion of the different ways you can receive your benefits, including the pros and cons of each, and the approximate costs. We will also cover enrollment and eligibility guidelines.
The presenter is not connected to the Federal Medicare Program.
Your Zero Waste Home: Save Money While Living a Sustainable Life
